Research has shown that the people who leave bequests to your organization are not necessarily the wealthiest people on your donor file. Instead, legacy donors tend to be loyal, low-level donors who have given frequently for many years. A donor who has given your organization $25 a year for ten years, for example, is far more likely to leave a bequest than a donor who has given one or two large gifts over ten years. (And there is no other group on your donor file more likely to leave your organization a bequest than your monthly donors.)
